King of .22 Mile - ELR Rimfire Event

The Ultimate Long Range Rimfire Challenge

The CRPS King of .22 Miles is the ultimate test of a shooters skill at long range rimfire accuracy.

Proudly Presented by

Go Big Tactical

Go Big Tactical is a proud sponsor of the Canadian shooting community and its events.  They provide the very best products for precision shooting in both rimfire and centerfire disciplines.  Their support has been invaluable in providing Canadians opportunities to compete from coast-to-coast.

An exciting test of a shooter's experience and skill

The King of .22 Miles Event Format

The King of .22 Miles event is a 4 stage event that provides shooters with an opportunity to test their skills against target arrays of varying distances and sizes.  The event is shot prone, typically of a platform, and each shooter will have 10 minutes to make 3 hits per target starting with the closest one in the stage.  The shooter has 10 rounds to make 3 hits per target and the round count resents once the 3 hits are made.

A shooter may compete as an individual or as a paired team.  Paired teams are able to help their partner with wind calls, spotting trace, mirage or other support to help make hits downrange.  Each shooter in the pair will shoot, the non-shooting team member will be the spotter.  The combined score for both paired team members will be used to calculate the team score.

The Stages

The 4 stages in the  King of .22 Miles are:

  1. Pepsi Challenge - (7) Pepsi can sized steel targets are placed at 100m, 135m, 170m, 205m, 240m, 275m and 310m.
  2. 1/3 IPSC Precision Challenge - (7) - 1/3 IPSC Targets placed at 150m, 200m, 250m, 300m, 350m, 400m, 450m.
  3. 12" ELR Squares Challenge - (7) - 12" Squares placed at 200m, 250m, 300m, 350m, 400m, 450m, 500m.
  4. King of .22 Miles - 9 Targets placed starting at 300m and increasing in distance by 50m per stage.  Target sizes and distances are:
    24" - 300m
    30" - 350m
    30" - 400m
    36" - 450m
    36" - 500m
    42" - 550m
    42" - 600m
    48" - 650m
    48" - 700m

The Gear

Most equipment used at CRPS matches can be used successfully at the  King of .22 Miles event.  85% of the targets are 450m and closer and is within elevation and hold over capabilities of most rifle/optic combinations.  It is usually wind calls that determine how far the shooter will advance at each stage.

A  bipod or front support and rear bag are really the only two critical pieces of equipment.

There are a couple of things a shooter can do to increase the amount of elevation available to them.

1 - Maximize the amount of cant added to the rifle.

By dialing down from your 50m zero, you can count the amount of elevation you have below your zero.  Once you know the amount available, you can add that to the current amount of cant you have and purchase a new rail with the maximum amount of cant you calculated.  If you are planning to purchase a scope, perform this AFTER you install your new scope as each scope may have a different zero point in their elevator mechanism.

2 - Purchase a scope with more elevation available in the turrent AND more holdover capacity in the reticle.

Most modern optics will have at least 30 mil/110 moa of elevation in the turret mechanism.  They will also have between 10mil/36moa and 36mil/125moa in the reticle.  Check the specs to make sure you purchase the maximum amount of turret elevation and reticle holdover.

Once you've purchase your new scope, you can perform the previous step to maximize the amount of elevation available to you.

3 - Optical / Mechanical Elevation Device

There are devices available that you can either add in front of your scope to shift the the point of aim optically up to 100 MOA/30Mil.  These include the Charlie Tarac Micro and Nightforce Wedge.  Another option is the Ivey Mount that is a precision mount that allows you dial the desired amount of cant via a micrometer built into the base.
